About Shanti Dharma
There has always been a burning desire within my heart to do something meaningful with my time in this life. I discovered early in life that working around health and healing did feel meaningful to me and to a degree, satisfied the “who am I?” and “why am I here” questions that seemed to recur within me. A yearning desire to serve others and to experience the richness of life led me on many overseas adventures; many local adventures and gave me a repertoire of life experience that is very colorful and broad. I gained a tertiary education, which qualified me to teach high school students, but as fate would have it, I found myself pursuing my true vocation within emergency health care as a Paramedic, from the age of twenty-one.
With a career spanning over fifteen years within this emergency health care setting, I have gained a wealth of life and soul experience that is beyond description. I have had countless direct contacts with trauma, death and injury as well as the triumph of the human spirit, life and love. I have come to see the energetic patterns that exist between physical ailments and the emotional self, time and time again. This experience has proven to be invaluable in my work as an Ignite Your Spirit Therapist (energetic Healer).
Like many health care professionals and frontline workers I too suffered the ill effects of shift work and compassion fatigue or “burn out”. I found myself having an intuitive reading with successful spiritual medium who, said that if I didn’t learn to “protect” myself then I would become unwell, as I was a naturally gifted healer and I was “giving my spirit away”. What he said resonated with me, as I had already contended with some unusual ailments and a degree of exhaustion that was beyond physical and difficult to remedy.
Around this time a friend of mine suggested I might like to try meditation. The only way I can describe my first experience of meditation would be to say that I felt like I walked into a surround sound movie cinema that was playing ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ all at once! I thought I was hopeless at meditating! I had a busy mind, was running on pure adrenaline and could barely sit still for five minutes.
In 2007 I found myself walking in to a Harmony Centre in Sydney. The sense of familiarity was unmistakable; my soul was very at home here. I was to rediscover meditation but in a very different “flavor”. The active meditation style here really suited my busy mind. The music, guided visualisations and chanting was uplifting and distracting to my mind, the end result being a peace and stillness within that I had never felt before. The meditations were so restorative and I felt so rejuvenated afterwards. I knew that I had found the school that suited me perfectly.
The first time I met Shakti Durga, the spiritual leader of Shanti Mission, my heart expanded more than ever before and unbeknownst to me at the time, I had walked through the doors of what was to be my next vocational calling in this life. I completed the Path of Ease and Grace with Shakti Durga and immediately began training as an Ignite Your Spirit Therapist. That ‘protection’ that was suggested to me was found and I was to gain almost immediate relief from the fatigue I had been feeling as a practicing Paramedic.
I am now a senior disciple of Shakti Durga, having trained with her and her senior teachers for many years now. I am also a practicing Ignite Your Spirit Therapist, Spiritual Mentor and Teacher of the Path of Ease and Grace. My enthusiasm for front line work still exists and I love that I still work as an Intensive Care Paramedic on the streets of Sydney.
My passion is to teach and awaken within my students the same light that has been awakened within me, to encourage and support people to blaze in their life, work and relationships and to find a lasting joy and peace no matter what their background or profession. If I can find this peace of mind and heart, then so can you!
I have a healing practice in Sydney and teach seminars to larger groups within the public setting also. I have a particular passion for helping those who help others. I love working with health care professionals, frontline workers and healers.
